The Digital Society
For a long time now, the dynamics in nearly every area of our society have been closely linked with the influences of digital media: from the labor market to art, culture and interpersonal relationships to political opinion formation. This trend continues quickly and steadily. At the center are digital platforms in all their forms and combinations: social networks, messaging services and media platforms. In private life they have become indispensable for many people to get information, to receive news, to maintain social relationships, to be entertained, and to take part in culture and the spirit of the times. Social life has literally shifted a large part of itself onto the Internet. The now-deeply digitized private sector across all industries also relies on digital communication platforms to coordinate, make decisions and find customers. How well humanity will manage the major problems of our time will depend largely on how well our digital communication systems work. This is where opinions are formed, ideas spread and movements take shape – digital communication platforms, such as social media and AI assistants, are a direct line into people's minds and, if you will, the seat of our collective consciousness.
